One Out Of Three Men In South Africa Is A Rapist??? Could The Same Happen In The U.S.???

South Africa rape
Some statistics are just sad beyond words.
A study commissioned by the Medical Research Foundation, a group funded by the South African government, has wielded some disturbing findings about violence against women. According to the study, more than 1-in-3 men of Johannesburg have committed rape at some point in their lives. Roughly seven percent of the men sampled admitted to participating in a gang rape.
The study also found that over 51 percent of the 511 women surveyed had been victims of violence from men. Also, 78 percent of men admitted to committing a violent act against a woman. One fourth of the women in the survey said that they’d been raped, but only about four percent of these rapes are reported to police.
These findings are similar to a 2008 study that found that 28 percent of the men in Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces had committed rape against a woman or girl. Also, one-third of the men said they did not feel guilty for what they’d done. Two-thirds of the men claimed to have committed rape out of a sense of entitlement, and others raped out of boredom or a desire to punish women who’d rejected them.
The study’s author, Rachel Jewkes, said that apartheid may have played a role in creating a culture in which violence against women has been trivialized.
“Apartheid has contributed to culture of impunity surrounding rape in South Africa,” said Jewkes. She also says that men who experienced trauma or were abused were much more likely to commit rape than other men.
If racism is partly to blame for these statistics, could the same thing happen here in the U.S.?

Poor babies…let us pull out the violin:
ESPN has reported that the Miami Heat players are frustrated with coach Erik Spoelstra and are questioning whether he is fit to coach the team.
According to the report, sources said that the players think Spoelstra “is not letting them be themselves” and “that they are questioning his offensive strategies.” The Heat coach reportedly called out LeBron James during a recent practice in front of the team, telling him to get more serious.
In the third quarter of Miami’s 106-95 loss to Dallas on Nov. 27, James bumped Spoelstra during a timeout. The 40-year-old coach downplayed the incident, reportedly saying he didn’t notice the bump until he was told about it after the game. Miami has lost four of their last five games and are 9-8 overall.

T.I Opens Up About His Drug Habit & His Good Deeds Being Forgotten

Just before he turned himself in to a federal prison, TI sat down with Vibe Magazine for the December 2010 cover story. Inside, he spoke on how his good deeds are easily forgotten and how he acquired his drug habit:
On if he thinks he’s been treated unfairly
Let me just say this: [he sits up on the couch] If you look at a guy who came up, no pops in the house, moms on welfare, food stamps; started selling dope when he was 12, 13 years old, came up handling guns, being in shoot-outs; started going to jail when he was 15. In all of this chaos and this mischief and lawlessness, the person who was just in jail for machine guns and silencers turns his life around. And now you want to crucify him ―for what? Three pills. I mean, of course it’s wrong and unacceptable and inexcusable. No problem. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s rather petty. It’s rather petty to hold someone’s feet to the fire for something so small when they have overcame things that were so big. All that could have been going wrong―if I was riding with more guns, or if I had gotten into a shoot-out and killed somebody, then I could see that. But just think about it. I’ve gotten it down to this much.
On his drug habit
I had a lot of work done to my teeth. Oral surgery, extractions, six, seven, eight root canals. Between January to February. As soon as I got out, I had a lot of stuff done. In the joint, you eat sh*t that is unhealthy for you. I had fillings that fell out and stuff that had to get dealt with. Of course for the pain they gave me oxycontin and hydrocodone. And, mind you, on October 13, 2007, I had cut off everything―weed, alcohol. Then I get these pills and I start taking them for the pain at first. And then I’m like, Wait―this shit makes me feel good. And it’s legal. After the pain went away, I kept taking it. I had like five, six prescriptions. So I had, like 80 pills. Everybody else might have a drink or smoke a blunt, I took a pain pill. Times when I had 18-, 20-hour days, I’d take a pain pill. And eventually I developed―I guess―the beginning stages of dependence.

Was Chris Brown Snubbed By The American Music Awards?

Last night, I was bombarded with tweets and emails from Chris Brown fans who were upset that Chris Brown lost the “Best Male R&B” Award to Usher.  According to the twitter page of Neon Limelight, a pop culture site that was backstage at the award show, Chris Brown was scheduled to receive the award, but when it was announced, the honors went to Usher.
Guys! We are sooooo sorry! This teleprompter backstage had Chris’ name on it!
It even said he couldn’t be there to accept! Something shady just went down! So sorry guys!
I’ve been reading the prompter all night and it was announcing winners correctly. This is the only time it was wrong? #shade!!!
Justin Bieber’s name was on the prompter for this award…and he won. How is the Male R&B award the only that wouldn’t be right? #shade
We can’t apologize enough #TeamBreezy. For those who have been following us for a long time, you know how much we love Chris, so we were
As excited as you guys. And to see it not pan out when his name was there TWICE? Upsetting. Disheartening. Seriously.
Chris Brown’s fans weren’t the only ones in an uproar last night over the Award show winners. Lady Gaga’s Monsters were disappointed when she lost the “Artist of the Year” Award to Justin Bieber. Via Israel Hernandez twitter (friend of Gaga):
I am disgusted at @ABC for what they did to @ladygaga tonight.
I’m sure that I sure the same disgust with some of you against @ABC for giving that award to @justinbieber
I think @justinbieber is an amazing kid with great talent. It’s not his fault.

Dirty Money Performs “Coming Home” at The AMAs

Diddy and his Dirty Money crew made an appearance on the red carpet of the 2010 American Music Awards tonight before performing their new single “Coming Home”.
I am kind of feeling the new joint but is Diddy alluding that he’s finally ready to settle down?
The chorus of the song includes the lyrics “Tell the world, I’m coming home, let the rain wash away, all the pain of yesterday, I know my kingdom awaits, and they’ve forgiven my mistakes, I’m coming home”.  Diddy’s verses include the lines “”It’s easy to be Puff, harder to be Sean, What if my twins ask me why I ain’t marry their mom, damn how do I respond?”  and “We’ve been living in sin because we’ve been really in love, but we’ve been living as friends, so you have been a guest in your own home, it’s time to make your house your home.”
He also ends the song, thanking God that he’s a better man

Don’t Think Eva Longoria’s Sneaky Behind Is An Angel In All This…

Tony Parker Eva Longoria Divorce
While Eva Longoria is out here playing the “hurt, jilted” wife in the media, the real deal behind her divorce are starting to come out. And there’s no question she’s milking the publicity and attention.
Now, by no means are we implying that Tony Parker is a saint. But TMZ reports his infidelity was in text only.
Sources connected with Tony tell TMZ … Tony did indeed have a “sexting relationship” with Erin Barry, the estranged wife of former San Antonio Spur Brent Barry, but it ended months ago. The sources insist, “They never had a physical relationship.”
Here’s where Eva’s attention whoring comes in.
When Desperate Housewives star Eva discovered the relationship and the texts her marriage blew up and she and Tony agreed to divorce. “But Eva was hurt and she wanted a little revenge,” the source revealed. “So she blindsided Tony with the divorce filing.
“They were working out the details about who was going to file and when. They didn’t want it to become a messy divorce. Then Eva got a little revenge and didn’t tell Tony she was filing and dropped the papers on him, catching him off balance for the media blitz.”
Eva and Tony agreed many weeks ago to divorce. “They were discussing how to proceed for a while,” the source said. “Suddenly, Eva not only filed the papers but then went public with Tony’s relationship with Erin. He was surprised, to say the least.”
Sounds to us like maybe Eva wanted an out and Tony handed it to her on a platter.

Rihanna Says She Smashed And Dashed With Drake Because She Was Too “Fragile”

RihRih is still runnin’ her yap about the aftermath of her run in with Breezy’s fist… including how it made her too vulnerable to be more than f*ck buddies with Drake.
She tells Hot 97:
“We weren’t really sure what it was. We just went out — my friends, his friends. I definitely was attracted to Drake, but I think it is what it is, like it was what it was. We didn’t want to take it any further. It was at a really fragile time in my life, so I just didn’t want to get too serious with anyone or anything at that time.”
Riiiiight so the smash and dash was the move?
Apparently RihRih’s boo Mattypoo isn’t tripping off being Drizzy’s sloppy seconds either. When asked whether the baseball player was bothered by their video “What’s My Name?” Rih responded that Kemp was supportive.
“(Kemp) never said it out loud, but I don’t know what he’s thinking. He watched it the other day and he was like, “I love that video. It’s a great video babe. I don’t know how true that really was, but he seemed to like it.”
Good job Matty, support your lady and save the for your diary. You don’t want the rudegal to think you’re “fragile” too…
Keep it real RihRih, you wanted to run through a few other folks before you settled down again.

Nicki Minaj Visits The Wendy Williams Show

Nicki Minaj was spotted outside of the Wendy Williams posing and signing autographs for her Barbz and Kenz. She was there to promote her new album Pink Friday which hits stores next week. During the show, Nicki spoke to Wendy Williams about people referring to her as a character or “gimmick”
No, when I first started rapping I felt like I had to be someone. Like everyone was telling me, ‘Oh be this way. You’re from Queens, be hard.’ That wasn’t really me and that wasn’t who I wanted to be. When I changed the people who were around me, I just started being free. You know, I’ve always been animated; I’ve always been crazy. I studied theater.
On the rumors of being engaged
I’m in love with my music; I’m in love with Pink Friday. I’m married to Benjamin Franklin. That’s all I care about.” Hm … “That’s what I tell my Barbz and my Ken Barbz. Don’t chase these boys and all that stuff, go to school, go to college, don’t depend on anybody. Don’t be having babies. Do your thing.

[Video] Chrisette Michele Talks Disappointment in Rick Ross & Hip Hop

Chrisette Michele stopped by Cherry Martinez show earlier this week for BAN Mondays and discussed her recent comments about Rick Ross walking out on the Soul Train Awards after he lost an award to Eminem.  In her statement last week, she revealed she was disappointed in Hip Hop after the incident.
Here’s what she had to say on the show:
I can’t get in touch with him no more. So I’m wondering honestly is he okay, is everything okay? Then I’m wondering how does this make us look to corporate America? Because we got folks spending hundreds and hundreds, hundreds of millions of dollars on putting a show together and then the only rap artist for the whole entire show, the only hip hop representation for the whole show
For hip hop to walk out like that…you know to me that’s what it meant. To me it was like Hip Hop just misrepresented itself because that’s not who we are, we are people who have fought threw the struggle and we came up from the ground, we’ve paved the way for people to be entrepreneurs to come into corporate America. So when corporate America welcomes us, we don’t just leave and I felt like that was the damage, it wasn’t just about the performance it was about what we said to corporate America as a community. That’s why I was broken.
I just tweeted and it didn’t say Rick Ross’ name but it talked about the way that us as a community represents ourselves and places like award shows and that music isn’t all about receiving an award. It’s more about showing what our community has to say, spreading love, it’s about camaraderie. Collaborations especially are about unity in the African American community. The first thing I’m thinking when I go into the studio with a rapper is “Wow, this is going to the great for our community.” So that’s what I said on twitter and that was taken to every kind of blog site that I can think of and people were very upset about it. But at the end of the day it wasn’t necessarily to Rick, it was to how we represent ourselves to a population and the way that we represent ourselves outside of our beat box and outside of our boom box, and outside of our stoop.
You know America is watching us and paying attention.

Jay-z Talks President Obama, Kanye West vs. Bush, & Being Inspired by Oprah

Jay-z was all smiles yesterday evening as he made an appearance at the New York Public Library to promote his new book “Decoded”. During the event, Jay fielded questions from Dr. Cornel West and Paul Holdengraber on the contents of the book.
Oprah was a big reason I wrote this book. We had conversations about language and the N word, and while we didn’t agree, we left that conversation with a better understanding.
Jay-z also sat down with The Associated Press recently and revealed that he agreed with the comments Kanye West made about former President Bush (even though Kanye later apologized) and that he still supports President Barack Obama.
I think what Kanye went through was, he himself became that, over the Taylor Swift incident. People said he was racist. And he’s not a racist person, so it made him reflect on the comments that he made. But I 100 percent agreed with the comments that he made, because again … it felt like it was being done to black people. Like all you saw on the news was black people on the news with help signs and all this stuff, and then you have this picture of the commander in chief, who we all rely on, just flying by. It’s like, What is that? … If that had happened anywhere else besides New Orleans, would the response (have) been so slow? Would Bush (have) been on the ground? You have to ask these sort of questions. Just the fact that he thinks that the worst thing that happened to him is Kanye saying something about him. Like, what? That alone shows you where his mind is. Are you kidding me?
On President Obama
I believe the same thing about Barack that I believed at day one. What he represents is bigger than any political agenda that he can pass across the House, Senate or whatever. I think that right now he’s going through a difficult period because people are putting the last eight years on his table and they’re judging him by it. You can’t expect a man to clean up eight years of mess in two years; it’s just bad math. It’s impossible
