Last night,  the stylish couple stepped out for their first public appearance since Kobe’s season-ending injury, to attend the “Unforgettable Evening Benefiting EIF’s Women’s Cancer” benefit dinner in Los Angeles.

For the occasion, Vanessa matched Kobe’s fly in a Saint Laurent Bow Tie Dress (Retailed at over 5 grand), which was previously worn by Rita Ora at Elle’s Women In Music event.  Although both girls went with a red lip, Vanessa completed the look with a quilted clutch and Saint Laurent ankle buckle pumps.

Actor Laz Alonso Enjoys A Fun Night Out With Rosa Acosta

Deception star Laz Alonso and model Rosa Acosta brought some latin flavor to Atlanta last night as they attended a party at Cream Ultra Lounge.  The two good friends were spotted dancing and smoking hookahs throughout the night while partying with the likes of Allen Iverson and Ray J.

Meanwhile, NBC recently announced a few shows that are on their renewal schedule and Deception was not on the list, however, there is still a good chance that the show will get another season.  If so, Laz hopes to bring more of his Cuban background to the show’s character. He recently told NBC Miami:

We’ve been talking about throwing in more Latino-isms next season for sure. I think that if we get another season we will explore more of Will’s life, and he is going to be in his element a little more as well.

Is Chris Brown Talking About Relationship Issues With Rihanna On New Track?

Are they on or are they off? It’s hard to tell with Chris Breezy and Rihanna nowadays!

Over the weekend, fans of the Chrianna relationship were left shocked and alarmed after Chris unfollowed Rihanna on Twitter, just a short while after she started following Drake (Champagne Papi) on Instagram. Things went a little further when photos emerged of Rihanna playfully kissing a cute guy on Twitter. The guy wrote, “Me and @badgalriri out here tonight!” which prompted a cryptic tweet from Chris Brown’s Twitter account that said, “Sh-t is overrated nowadays.”

If all this back and forth cryptic tweeting, unfollowing and refollowing isn’t convincing, last night, Chris tweeted a link to a song which he captioned, “Some sh-t I felt like writing that’s not on the album.” Interesting enough, the lyrics to the track describe a relationship with a girl that’s just not working out. He says, “When you called, I would follow, now the only thing you love is a bottle.”

Jay-Z Suits Up For ‘The Great Gatsby’ Premiere

**Cue ‘Suit & Tie’** Jay-Z definitely cleans up well!

Last night, he was killing it in that suit as he hit the world premiere of “The Great Gatsby” in New York City. Of course Beyonce couldn’t make it because she was in London rocking it on her “Mrs. Carter World Tour,” but Jay showed face on the carpet as the executive producer of the movie’s soundtrack.

In case you are wondering how in the world Jay was chosen as EP over the film’s music, he recently sat down with Black Tree Media to talk about how he got involved.

“This whole process started [when] Baz and Leo came to a recording session. We were over at the Mercer Hotel finishing up “Watch The Throne” and I was working on a song called “No Church in the Wild.” I was working on it while they were in the room and we started playing some music and we started talking about collaborating because [I was] collaborating with Kanye at the time. We just talked about the act and the art of collaborating. I guess that was the seed of the ideas.

Nicki Minaj Slams Mariah Carey For Being Insecure & Bitter

Over the past few months, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj has managed to keep their shade throwing to a minimum, but things got real ugly last night on American Idol.  At one point during the show, Nicki pulled a cotton swab out her purse and told Mariah she needed to clean her ears, and during another segment, while critiquing a contestant, Mariah somewhat taunted Nicki for never having a #1 on the Billboard (Mariah has plenty, of course).

Things spilled over to Twitter today after Perez Hilton posted that Mariah “burned” Nicki with her insults.  Nicki snapped back:

Bwaha! Burn? Shes sad i tied her record for Hot 100 entries in only 3 years of being in the game. Yep, a black female rapper. What u SHOULD be doing (wit your messy a–) is asking why a woman SO successful at her age, is still so INSECURE, and bitter.

Meanwhile, it seems as though Nicki might have been dropping some tea on J. Lo returning to American Idol.  According to reports, Jennifer Lopez recently approached the producers about returning because she wanted stability since she will be putting her kids in school in LA.   The media ran with it and said that J. Lo may be replacing Mariah next season, however J. Lo’s team claims that her intent wasn’t to replace her.

If there was a ‘secret plot’ to replace Mariah, as has been suggested, then it was all FOX… J.Lo’s approach was about the future. Not the present. She’s talking about next season.

If Mariah and J. Lo were on the same panel that would be interesting because J.Lo and Mariah have had a long-standing beef for years. Lawd!

Last night, Facebook invited everybody and their mamas (literally) to the Capitale for the launch of their new online game Gig It in New York City.  The event was hosted by La La and DJ Khaled, and drew support from the likes of Elle Varner and Adrienne Bailon as well as Nas, Rick Ross, Wale, Ne-Yo, Jamie Foxx, Fabolous, Busta Rhymes, T-Pain, 2 Chainz, French Montana, Joe Budden and more.

Lil Wayne Issues Apology To Emmett Till’s Family

Better late than never.

A few months ago, the family of civil rights’ figure Emmett Till expressed their disappointment with Lil Wayne for using Emmet’s name in the offensive lyric,”beat the p-ssy up like Emmett Till.”  Although they lobbied for an apology, they never received one personally from Lil Wayne, and as time went by the issue seemed to have been swept under the rug.

This week, Emmett’s family decided they would try to hit Wayne where it hurts –his pockets,  and after they requested that his biggest sponsor Mountain Dew drop him from his endorsement, they received the apology they were waiting for.  In a statement to the Till family, Wayne wrote:

Dear Till Family:
As a recording artist, I have always been interested in word play. My lyrics often reference people, places and events in my music, as well as the music that I create for or alongside other artists.
It has come to my attention that lyrics from my contribution to a fellow artist’s song has deeply offended your family. As a father myself, I cannot imagine the pain that your family has had to endure. I would like to take a moment to acknowledge your hurt, as well as the letter you sent to me via your attorneys.
Moving forward, I will not use or reference Emmett Till or the Till family in my music, especially in an inappropriate manner. I fully support Epic Record’s decision to take down the unauthorized version of the song and to not include the reference in the version that went to retail. I will not be performing the lyrics that contain that reference live and have removed them from my catalogue.
I have tremendous respect for those who paved the way for the liberty and opportunities that African-Americans currently enjoy. As a business owner who employs several African-American employees and gives philanthropically to organizations that help youth to pursue their dreams my ultimate intention is to uplift rather than degrade our community.

Hip Hop has gone too far, says one Michigan radio station. In a bold move this week, WUVS-LP 103.7 The Beat has decided to take a stand against Rick Ross and Lil Wayne by pulling their music from rotation, after being fed up with the disrespectful and violent lyrics portrayed in some of their recent songs.  Just last month, Lil Wayne found himself under fire when he hopped on the remix to Future’s “Karate Chop” and compared assaulting a woman’s anatomy to the beating of Emmitt Till, “Bout to put rims on my skateboard wheels/Beat that p—y up like Emmett Til.” Epic Records quickly pulled the track and issued an apology to Emmitt Till’s family after receiving backlash.

The tipping point came this week, when Rick Ross released a song titled,  “You Don’t Even Know,” where he raps about slipping a “molly” into a woman’s drink and having sex with her without her knowledge. He says,

Put molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it
I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it.

As soon as the record dropped, people were wondering why it was okay for a rapper to blatantly talk about drugging and raping a girl. Is this what music has come to?

In a statement, WUVS-LP The Beat says it’s time that hip hop starts taking some responsibility:

The questions have been asked, Is Hip Hop Music Destroying America, Is Hip Hop A Threat To Our Children or Should Rappers Be Accountable For Their Lyrics? You be the judge.  Earlier this year the song “Karate Chop” leaked online featuring rapper Lil Wayne.  He raps, “Bout to put rims on my skateboard wheels/Beat that (expletive/woman genital) up like Emmett Till.”  A few weeks later a song by rapper Rocko featuring Rick Ross was released called “You Don’t Even Know It.”  Rick Ross raps, ‘Put molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it/ I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it.’ Yes, we have our freedom of speech right, but when is freedom of speech taken too far?”
“Many would say both rappers have taken their lyrical content too far and offended too many.  The family and estate of Emmett Till have released a statement of disapproval over Lil Wayne’s disregard and disrespectful lyrics. Though his record label issued a statement of apology, the rapper has yet to do so.  In the case of Rick Ross, a petition has been started over his blatant disregard for women and the issue of date rape. The U.S. Department of Justice estimates that over 300,000 women are raped or sexually assaulted per year in the United States alone. That is a disturbing number and should not be taken lightly. His lyrics not only condone the behavior, but he boasts about it in the song.  While some feel it’s only entertainment, many feel it sends and encourages the wrong message.  Several individuals and organizations have taken a stand and so are we.  Effective immediately Muskegon’s WUVS-LP 103.7 the Beat has pulled ALL Lil Wayne and Rick Ross music from rotation.  We pride ourselves on playing music that is non-degrading and non-violent. While we believe in freedom of speech, creative writing and individualism, we refuse to be part of the problem by spreading messages that could harm or end someone’s life.”

I’m sure other radio stations will soon follow. It has to start somewhere.

BET took a stand against degrading music years ago when they eliminated the late night show, “Uncut.” Since then, they’ve put such a strict policy in place that even a video like Ciara’s “Ride” or Nicki Minaj’s “Stupid H-e” can’t get airtime on their flagship show, 106 and Park.

MTV’s Sway Given A 90-Inch TV By Sharp Following Kanye Comments

While taking part in a rare interview last week, noted Chi-Town rapper Kanye West made it a point to inform fans that he gave MTV personality Sway Calloway his first ever television. Thanks to Kanye’s comments, the radio host was recently gifted with a 90-inch, AQUOS flat screen TV courtesy of Sharp.
The impressive Sharp television, “the largest LED TV on the planet,” is a far cry from the throwback television Sway received from Kanye.
“I didn’t want to even call to talk about this #7 list, I just wanted to tell everybody I gave Sway his first TV — and he need to remember that,” Kanye shared during an interview earlier in the month.
As a bonus, Sway also received a remote control that will work with the 36-inch, Kanye-gifted television he’s dubbed “Sharpeezy.”

For once in her life, Kris Jenner is finally putting the well-being of her kids before their potential to earn more cash. After initially being thrilled about her 15-year-old daughter Kylie dating Jaden Smith her dumbazz just figured out that his fam is down with the Scientologists and now she’s having second thoughts. The budding romance between Kylie, 15, and Jaden, 14 — who were spotted on a series of dates in London in early March — originally earned “momager” Kris’ stamp of approval.
“They were going to be the new Kardashian ‘celebrity couple,’” said an insider. “Kris’ mind was going a mile a minute thinking of all the business deals she could make in the teen market. But after pals alerted her to the Smith family’s attachment to Scientology, she started having second thoughts about the relationship.”
According to the insider, Kris is concerned that Jaden will pique Kylie’s interest in the church, which could eventually “go after her money and try to control her career.”
Will has publicly denied that he’s a Scientologist, but he maintains a close friendship with the organization’s most celebrated member, Tom Cruise, and has donated to groups affiliated with Scientology in the past. The Men in Black star told a reporter: “You don’t have to be Jewish to be a friend of Steven Spielberg. You don’t have to be a Muslim to be a friend of Muhammad Ali. And you don’t have to be a Scientologist to be a friend of Tom Cruise … I respect all people and all paths.”
Still, Kris has her doubts. But insiders insist she has nothing to worry about. “Jaden’s a teenager,” noted another source. “He’s way more concerned with sports, girls and dating than he is with Scientology.”

Chief Keef Released From Custody

Sosa is finally free. Controversial Chicago teen rapper Chief Keef was released from a juvenile detention center(March 14). 

The "Don't Like" rapper served two months for a parole violation. An ill-conceived interview with Pitchfork that was held at a gun range is what sent Keef back to the kiddie bing.

The Chicago Tribune reports:

Some two dozen relatives and supporters snapped photos with their cellphones Thursday as South Side rapper Chief Keef walked out of the Cook County Juvenile Justice Center after completing a 60-day sentence for violating his probation for a gun conviction.
The 17-year-old rap sensation was taken into custody Jan. 15 after a juvenile court judge ruled that Chief Keef had violated his probation by firing a rifle at a gun range during an on-camera promotion for his music last summer.

Will Keef get baptized as planned now that he's a free man, though? Even his grandmother isn't so sure. "Keith talked to me sideways about it," Margaret Carter, Keef's grandmother, told DNAInfo Chicago on Wednesday (March 13). “That's his old neighborhood pastor. There's no telling what he told Corey, and if he'll do something different. But Keith's little sister says she wants to go with him. And my oldest son says he wants to get baptized again, too. … We'll see what Sunday brings us."

Michelle Obama Covers Vogue, President Obama Admits She Upgraded Him

First Lady Michelle Obama is featured in Vogue Magazine once again, this time as the cover subject for their April 2013 issue.  Although she graces the cover solo, the accompanying article is definitely a family feature as President Obama also strikes a pose for his wife’s photo shoot and drops in on her interview.

Inside, the couple take turns dishing on what they’ve learned from each other throughout their 20 year marriage, as well as reveal how they were able to keep their relationship intact while taking on the pressures of being a First Family.  Michelle admits her mama, who lives in the White House with them, keeps the both of them in check.  President Obama also says that Michelle upgraded him “like Beyoncé in that song.”  Ha!

On preventing their political rise to fame from shaking up their relationship
President Obama: We were pretty much who we are by the time I hit the national scene. We didn’t grow up or come of age under a spotlight. We were anonymous folks. I was a state senator, but nobody knows who a state senator is. So most of our 30s and 40s were as a typical middle-class family. . . . That really didn’t change until I was 45 years old. And there’s something about having lived a normal life and raised kids. We had to figure out how to make a mortgage, payin’ the bills, goin’ to Target, and freakin’ out when . . . the woman who’s looking after your girls while Michelle’s working suddenly decides she’s quittin’. . . . All those experiences made us who we were, so that by the time this thing hit, it was hard for us to. . . .
Michelle: Be different people. And I think we are accountable to each other for being who we are. There’s no way I could walk in the door and be somebody different from who I’ve been with this man for 20-some-odd years. He would laugh me out of the house! And we are also blessed with families who hold us accountable.[...]“My mother doesn’t do interviews. but let me tell you: She is not long on pretense. She’s the first one to remind us who we are. And it’s been very helpful having her living with us. . . . We can check reality against her sensibilities.

I’ve tried to explain this guy to people over the years, but there is a calmness to him that is just . . . it has been a consistent part of his character. Which is why I think he is uniquely suited for this challenge—because there is a steadiness. And maybe it’s because of his Hawaiian upbringing—you go to Hawaii and it’s Chillsville; maybe it was because his life growing up was a little less steady, so he had to create that steadiness for himself . . . but he is that person, in all situations, over the course of these last four years, from watching the highs and lows of health-care reform to dealing with two very contentious, challenging elections. . . . The most you get from him is ‘You know, that is gonna be tough. . . .’ There are a lot of times I can’t tell how his day went. Unless I really dig down. Because when he walks through that door, he can let go of it all. And it just doesn’t penetrate his soul. And that’s the beautiful thing for me to see as his wife. That was one of the things I was worried about: How would politics affect this very decent, genuine, noble individual? And there is just something about his spirit that allows all that stuff to stay on the outside.

I’ve learned that from my husband, that sort of, you know, ability to not get too high or too low with changes and bumps in the road . . . to do more breathing in and just going with it. And to the extent that I’ve made changes in my life, it’s just sort of stepping back and seeing a change not as something to guard against but as a wonderful addition . . . that can make life fun and unexpected. Oftentimes, it’s the way we react to change that is the thing that determines the overall experience. So I’ve learned to let go and enjoy it and take it in and not take things too personally.”
President Obama: And what Michelle has done is to remind me every day of the virtues of order. Being on time. Hanging up your clothes. Being intentional about planning time with your kids. In some ways I think . . . we’re very different people, and some of that’s temperamental, some of it is how we grew up. Michelle grew up in a model nuclear family: mom, dad, brother. . . . She just has these deep, wonderful roots. When you go back to Chicago, she’s got family everywhere. . . . There’s just a warmth and a sense of belonging. And you know, that’s not how I grew up.
I had this far-flung family, father left at a very young age, a stepfather who ended up passing away as well. My mother was this wonderful spirit, and she was adventurous but not always very well organized. And, so, what that means is that I’m more comfortable with change and adventure and trying new things, but the downside of it is, sometimes—particularly when we were early on in our marriage—I wasn’t always thinking about the fact that my free-spirited ways might be having an impact on the person I’m with. And conversely, early in our marriage, Michelle provided this sense of stability and clarity and certainty about things, but sometimes she resisted trying something new just because it might seem a little scary or push her out of her comfort zone. I think what we’ve learned from each other is that sense of. . . .[Michelle: "Balance."] There’s no doubt I’m a better man having spent time with Michelle. I would never say that Michelle’s a better woman, but I will say she’s a little more patient.

Drake, Chris Paul & His Wife Visit Lil Wayne At Cedars-Sinai, Usher Sends His Love

By now, we’ve already realized that there were some serious HIPAA privacy laws being violated at Cedars-Sinai Hospital yesterday, as a member on staff fed health updates on Lil Wayne to the website TMZ, in exchange for a big paycheck. Hours after Lil Wayne was admitted, the entertainment website posted that he was in an induced coma after suffering from violent seizures and that his family and friends were gathering at the hospital to say their last goodbyes. After being blasted in a series of tweets from Mack Maine, Toya Wright and T.I, TMZ removed the part of the story that stated that Lil Wayne was being given his last rites, however, they have pretty much stuck by the rest of their story.

As of this morning, although there are reports that he is still in ICU and stabilizing, Lil Wayne’s condition is still very much unknown.  Last night, celebs like Drake, Chris Paul and his wife Jada were spotted looking somber as they arrived to the hospital a little before visiting hours ended at midnight.  Inside sources also confirmed that the hospital staff is under investigation.

Meanwhile, over in Austin, Texas, Usher performed a surprise show with The Afghan Whigs at SXSW, and stopped his set to send love to Lil Wayne.

One of my fellow artists, good friend, Lil Wayne is going through a real hard time right now. And I just want to say that I have a positive attitude about his fate, there’s a lot of positive energy out there. Can we give it up for him one time?

Alicia Keys Debuts New Reebok Hi Wedge Shoes On Extra TV

Earlier today, Alicia Keys, her hubby Swizz Beatz and their energetic son Egypt were spotted leaving their hotel after a busy day of promoting Alicia Keys new line of Reebok sneakers.  The new AKW collection, scheduled for release in April, will include a a variety of hi-top kicks that feature a wedge heel and colorful design.

This morning, Alicia rocked a pair on Extra TV, while showing off the different colorways that are available.
