Serena Williams Hospitalized For Blood Clot In Lung




Tennis great Serena Williams was hospitalized and underwent emergency surgery for a pulmonary  embolism (a blood clot in the lungs) earlier this week, People magazine is reporting.
The 29-year-old tennis star was treated after falling ill  on Monday, according to her rep.
"Monday Serena Williams underwent emergency treatment at Cedars (Sinai Medical Center) for a hematoma she suffered as a result of treatment for a more critical situation," her rep Nicole Chabot tells People.
On Tuesday, Williams posted, "Tough Day" on her official Twitter account.
According to reports Williams is still in the hospital and  recovering well.
"Doctors are continuing to monitor her situation closely to avoid additional complications," Chabot tells the magazine.
The former world champ has not competed professionally since winning last year's Wimbledon title after cutting her foot on broken glass at a restaurant in Germany.
