Safe House screen-writer David Guggenheim, has recently brokered a new deal with Universal Picture to pen the sequel to the hit 2012 film.
Safe House starred Oscar award-winning actor Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. The action thriller revolved around:
Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington), an ex-CIA agent turned international criminal, who acquires a file from renegade MI6 agent Alec Wade (Liam Cunningham). Attacked by the mercenary Vargas (Fares Fares), he enters an American consulate and is moved to a CIA safe house in Cape Town, South Africa. The “housekeeper” is Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds), a low-level agent. He watches Frost’s interrogation and waterboarding by Daniel Kiefer (Robert Patrick). When Vargas and his men attack the house, he executes Kiefer and his team, as Weston manages to escape with Frost captive(Wiki).
The studios already expressed
that they would like both Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds to return,
but that would be impossible being that Washington was killed in the
end of the film (Sorry if you haven’t seen it). Who knows, perhaps the
studio will make a prequel? Even though the two lead characters met in
the beginning of the original Safe House, that may work.
Guggenheim would have to find a cleaver way to position Frost in
Weston’s life prior to being dragged into the Safe House.
Safe House made over $202 million worldwide.
