Jay-Z closed out his performance at London’s wireless festival with a bang by bringing out Roc Nation princess, Rihanna. There was a 2-hour performance by ‘Jigga’ and his new tour mate, Justin Timberlake,
as they gave the London crowd a taste of what their “Legends Of Summer”
tour will be like. But it was the Bajan bombshell that sent the crowd
into hysterics. According to mtv.co.uk:
“As the enchanting vocals of Rihanna on Jay-Z collaboration Run This Town filled
London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the crowd longed for the Bajan
babe herself to join the party. And, as if by magic, Jigga and JT
welcomed RiRi to the stage. Dressed in a tight leather skirt and white
bra-top, Rihanna belted out the tune much to the pleasure of the crowd.
Then as quickly as she appeared, Jay thanked RiRi for her time as she
vanished backstage. While her cameo was highly appreciated by the
audience, we were left wanting more from RiRi.”
Make no mistake, Jay-Z and Timberlake did not disappoint. The two are
notorious for being master show men, an especially big deal for Jay,
since he’s pretty much redefined what a rap concert should be. As
reported by guardian.co.uk:
“ Jay-Z’s presence is felt before he steps on stage. His shows have
helped to professionalise live hip-hop after years of cruddy sound,
intrusive hypemen and constant interruptions. Backed by a full band, Nas
– in the late-afternoon slot – rips through 50 minutes of hard-nosed
New York hip-hop with pugnacious urgency that makes A Tribe Called
Quest’s traditional MC/DJ setup seem archaic, albeit fun. Legends of the
Summer is on another plain entirely. Dressed in fire-engine red and
arrayed across two levels, a vast and gifted band helps urban music’s
two most enduringly dominant male stars steam through almost 40 hits in
two and a half hours. When Jay-Z boasts, during a particularly dizzying
sequence, “We got a million of these,” it feels like only a mild
exaggeration.”
