Martin Lawrence Honored At Eye On Black Awards, May Return To TV

It was a ‘Big Momma’ house reunion for actress Nia Long and Martin Lawrence this past weekend as they attended the Eye On Black Awards: Salute to Directors ceremony in Hollywood.  Martin Lawrence along with Debbie Allen, video director Chris Robinson, Bill Duke and Ava Duvernay were honored for their contributions of shaping the black experience through film.
The host, Brandon T. Jackson showed his appreciation and admiration for Martin by thanking him on stage for opening the doors for many young black comedians like himself.  The audience was reminded exactly why Martin Lawrence is a legend in comedy when a montage of clips played of all his work. Clips from his 1992 sitcom ‘Martin’ showcased all the hilarious characters he played including everyone’s favorite Mama Payne, Sheneneh, Rosoe and Jerome. A variety of film clips played dating back to his House Party days to him dressing as a woman in Big Momma’s house. Not only did we see him as a comedian, but we were also reminded he had a knack for action when he played alongside Will Smith in the Bad Boys series.
Martin gladly accepted the award (presented by Tim Allen and Luke Wilson) and brought his daughter on stage with him while explaining that he has always looked up to comedian’s Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor. And there is some good news on the homefront for ‘Martin’ fans. He has a new unnamed pilot on the table with CBS, in which could be his big return to television.
