Nicki Minaj Visits 106 and Park [Video]

Nicki Minaj hit up BET’s 106 and Park yesterday evening to deliver her newest video “Right Thru Me”. While there, she explained why she is a “monster” on her features but tends to tone down her delivery on her own tracks.
That’s the craziest misconception that I’ve led people to believe is that I’m always a “Monster”. I’m not. Over the past year, you’ve seen me team up with artists, and I’ve been doing features. And I’ve always tried to be the craziest, possible thing I can imagine on my features because I believe that’s what a feature should be. That’s what I learned from Wayne. When you get on a song and you’re about to rap for somebody, they’ve asked you to be on their song, you have to make every second count. That’s why you’ve seen the “monster” in my features but these are the kind of songs that I love. I can write these songs literally from beginning to end in 20 minutes. When I did “monster” i flew to Hawaii and then flew back home and then flew back to Hawaii and wrote Monster. [When you are on a track with Kanye] you over think it.

For Discussion: Is President Obama Too Cool To Be Properly Respected?

President Barack Obama

With his appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night, President Obama may have just earned another spot in the history books… for the most over analyzed presidential interview in the history of the United States.
Some are questioning Stewart’s ability as a presidential interviewer, since he’s the first satirical comedian to get a chance to interview a sitting president. They’re also wondering why Stewart held back, considering how hard he usually goes in on the President.
Others are talking about the President’s vibe on air: was he tense? Did he come off as being on the defensive? Did this appearance affect the public’s opinion positively or negatively?
One statement in particular raised some eyebrows.
Obama said that administration official Larry Summers did a “heckuva job” on financial reform–and the President suggested his words were deliberately chosen to echo the language George W. Bush used to praise FEMA official Michael Brown during Hurricane Katrina. Stewart jokingly told the president, “You don’t want to use that phrase, dude.”
Was it disrespectful for Stewart to address the president using a term that’s more commonly exchanged between two college guys sharing a bong?
Since the days of George Washington, America’s top leader has been addressed as “Mr. President.” Even Martha Washington called her husband “Mr. President.” Congress at one point considered the loftier title of “His Highness the President of the United States of America and Protector of their Liberties.” It’s unlikely the Founding Fathers would have ever considered the title “dude.”
Which raises the question: does our 44th President’s accessibility and down-to-Earth demeanor make him seem too much like “one of us” for us to offer him the proper amount of respect?
Or is it about time that we stop thinking of the President of the United States of America, the Commander in Chief, as someone that is somehow just a little better than the rest of us and thus worthy of a little more respect than most?

Survey Says…. Kanye West Is More Influential Than President Barack Obama

Kanye West Interrupts President Obama Nobel Peace Prize

SMH. In spite of, or maybe because of, all the controversy surrounding him, Kanye West was recently voted more influential than President Barack Obama.
Over 500,000 people voted in the survey on AskMen.com, putting the cocky musician at fifth place – higher than Jay-Z (13), George Clooney (18), and even President Obama (21).
Number one on the list? American TV presenter Jon Stewart, who hosts The Daily Show (No, we’re not sure who that is either). Further down however was rapper Eminem (24), Ben Affleck (25), singer-turned-actor Justin Timberlake (33) and Leonardo DiCaprio (43).
We’re relieved Barack beat out Eminem, but seriously? Whatever happened to people looking for guidance from spiritual leaders — why aren’t Deepak Chopra and the Dalai Lama on this list? Do you think people put too much stock in Jay-Z, Kanye West and other celebrity men?
We shouldn’t be surprised by these results. If there is anything that shows the power of Kanye West’s influence it’s Amber Rose. The world essentially embraced a bald-headed bisexual ex-stripper with wide arms just because Kanye did. SMH.

Melbourne, Australia Wants No Parts Of Akon In It

Akon Australia Cancelled Show

Pretending to chop down young girls or comparing your package to Wyclef’s on stage may not get you banned from a venue in Australia. Neither will throwing young boys off a stage.
But breaking up a fight just might?
Akon has been banned from performing at a show in Melbourne, Australia, due to the audiences’ raucous behavior in the past.
Akon and Ciara were announced as new editions to the Summerbeatz 2010 tour, which is taking place in Australia November 19th-25th and also features Soulja Boy, Flo Rida, Jay Sean and Stan Walker.
According to organizer Dwayne Cross, Akon has been banned from performing at the Rod Laver Arena on November 25th, after a wild incident at the Hisense Arena in 2009, when the singer jumped into the crowd to break up a fight.
While all the rappers are cleared for the other cities, Akon can only perform in Brisbane, Sydney and Perth.
“It’s with great regret that we announce that Akon will not be performing in Melbourneon the Summerbeatz 2010 Tour,” Cross said in a statement. “This is due to restrictions put on us by the Melbourne venue Rod Laver Arena.”
Sounds like hate, Rod Laver Arena. It’s okay though, Akon! Keep staying away from rappers and urban music like you’ve been doing and you might be able to stop scaring promoters

Say What?? Christian Author Compares Hov To Emily Dickinson, T.S. Elliott And Malcolm X

Jay-Z Kathleen Norris Decoded

When you release a book like the new guide to Camel fanboy-dome, “Decoded,” you probably have to go all out your way to make sure his… core demographic isn’t gonna be the only one picking it up, right?
To that effect, someone had author and poet Kathleen Norris read an advance copy of the book and share her opinion with the world. Norris, we should mention, is known for her writings on Christian spirituality and used to live in a monastery. Hold your breath before you read this.
“I had no idea what to expect when I started this manuscript, but now that I’ve finished it, my main response is gratitude to Jay-Z, not only for his honesty about his life story but for being willing to decode these lyrics, so that someone like me has access to them. Just from the few hip-hop/rap lyrics I’d heard, I knew there was something important going on — street news, social history, life stories of people who are so often invisible. But I had no idea how rich these stories were. I find myself making connections of my own — Jay-Z’s comments about both poets and hustlers “bending” language, for instance, had me recalling Emily Dickinson’s “tell the truth, but tell it slant.” The notes to the lyrics had me riffing on T.S. Eliot’s notes to “The Wasteland.”
Take a deep breath. There’s more BS to wade through.
Most of all, this book has reconnected me with the Autobiography of Malcolm X, which was really the story of a life saved, and a book written so that other kids that our society considers “throwaways” might find a way out, another way to live. Well, Malcolm’s book did that for many young people, and I hope that this book will as well. I feel like I’ve just scratched the surface of this brilliant book, and will be returning to the decodings over and over.
All of this appreciation hasn’t made her a fan of Hip-Hop music though.
If I’m given a choice between going clubbing to hear hip-hop, and going to a monastery to chant the psalms with Benedictine monks, the monks will win out every time. But as a poet, I am just so pleased to be given a better sense of the workings of this vital art form.”

Yung Joc Says P Diddy Is A Workaholic

Rapper Young Joc has opened up about the time that he spent under P Diddy’s guidance when he was signed to Bad Boy Records.
According to Joc, he learned a lot from the hip-hop mogul during his time at the record label between 2006 and 2009.
He told Vlad TV: "At the end of the day, I seen that man work non-stop. True workaholic and delegate. Gotta learn how to delegate. I watched him delegate. I watched him form allies with people and pass the ball.
"Delegation was the key and key to a lot of things I saw him do because you can't do it all yourself. I feel like, I was in situations where Diddy would do sh*t where other people thought it was like, 'Nah, I don't really wanna do that,' but he would go and do it just to let it be known, 'If I can get dirty, then motherf*cker you can get dirty.'
"I took a lot of that in and I saw it, watched a lot. Me and him weren't together everyday, all day, but the majority of time, I listened. I did more listening than talking."

Michael Jackson tops list of richest dead celebs

He may be gone, but he's not forgotten. In fact, Michael Jackson has brought in so much bank since his June 2009 passing that he's landed the No. 1 spot on Forbes's Top-Earning Dead Celebrities List.
According to Forbes, Jackson's estate has brought in a whopping $275 million over the past 12 months Рmore than the combined earnings of superstars Lady Gaga, Beyonc̩, Jay-Z and Madonna, and more than any living artist or group, for that matter.
"[Jackson's] kids are going to have grandkids before that money's gone," estate lawyer Donald David, who handled Tupac Shakur's finances, tells the magazine.

The beloved singer's good fortune is due in large part to licensing deals cut by executors of his estate, a surge in sales of his music catalog and the $250 million box office of his film, "This Is It."
"There is a strong demand for Michael Jackson's music and merchandise, and that will only increase as more material surfaces in the years following his death," says Adam Kluger of product-placement outfit the Kluger Agency.
Adds Susan Blond, Jackson's publicist during his "Thriller" days, "His earning potential will only increase year after year, as his legacy continues to be cemented. When our great-grandchildren are talking about music, it will be Michael Jackson over Elvis Presley."
Rounding out the lucky 13 deceased top earners, in order of rank: Elvis Presley, $60 million; author J.R.R. Tolkien, $50 million; Peanuts cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, $33 million; John Lennon, $17 million; author Stieg Larsson, $15 million; Dr. Seuss, $11 million; Albert Einstein, $10 million; New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, $8 million; songwriter Richard Rodgers, $7 million; Jimi Hendrix, $6 million; Steve McQueen, $6 million; Aaron Spelling, $5 million.

Corruption survey: Somalia is the worst

(CNN) -- Denmark, New Zealand and Singapore are seen as having the least corruption in the world, according to a just-published global survey.
Somalia is viewed as the most corrupt country.
The Corruption Perception Index (CPI) is published annually by Transparency International, a corruption monitoring organization based in Berlin, Germany.
"The surveys and assessments used to compile the index include questions relating to bribery of public officials, kickbacks in public procurement, embezzlement of public funds and questions that probe the strength and effectiveness of public sector anti-corruption efforts," said a release accompanying the 2010 CPI.
Countries with the highest scores on the index are viewed as having the least corruption; countries with the lowest scores, the most.
Denmark, New Zealand and Singapore each scored 9.3 out of a possible 10.
Rounding out the 10 highest scores: Finland and Sweden, 9.2; Canada, 8.9; Netherlands, 8.8; Australia and Switzerland, 8.7; and Norway, 8.6.
Japan was 17th on the list with a score of 7.8; the United Kingdom 20th (7.6); and the United States 22nd (7.1).
At the bottom of the 178 countries Somalia scored 1.1, just below Afghanistan and Myanmar (1.4) and Iraq (1.5).
Among emerging economic powerhouses, Brazil was 69th on the list with a score of 3.7; China 78th (3.5); and India 87th (3.3).
Overall, Transparency International says of the survey: "These results indicate a serious corruption problem.
"With governments committing huge sums to tackle the world's most pressing problems, from the instability of financial markets to climate change and poverty, corruption remains an obstacle to achieving much needed progress."

Celtics top Heat, 88-80, in opener

Rajon Rondo dished out 17 assists in Boston's season-opening victory over the new-look Heat. (Getty Images)

Here’s my message to everyone, everywhere: Settle down. Boston fans — and Heat haters — are going to crow things like, “So I guess the Heat aren’t invincible, huh?” Or: “Remember who the defending Eastern Conference champs are.”

Fine. All fair. The Celtics beat the Heat in the first game of the season. And you can take some lessons from this game. The Celtics still have a ferocious defense, they can still force a bunch of turnovers and if you spend much of the game running a basic pick-and-roll, they can shut you down. Shaq can help the Celtics on offense, and Marquis Daniels looks ready to have a nice season if he can stay healthy.
But this is still the first game of the season. The Heat are still learning, the players are learning each other and the coaching staff is learning how best to use them. And they are learning all of this after one of their three stars missed the entire preseason. All those shots that James Jones (2-of-7) took? Those are Mike Miller’s shots starting in the new year.
(Side note: Bodog.com set the over/under on the Heat’s lowest single-game point total at 82.5. I emphatically suggested you take the over. So, yeah).

So go easy on the burying of the Heat and shoving them down into the second tier. Or, put another way: Enjoy crowing tonight and tomorrow, because this loss doesn’t really change the big picture.
End, 4th: And there’s your final, as the C’s win, 88-80. The Heat aren’t going to win many games when Wade and Bosh shoot a combined 7-of-27 and the team turns it over 17 times.

Playing off of the criticism he received this past summer after his widely publicized “Decision”, Nike has released a commercial titled “Rise” starring Lebron James. In the 90 second spot, Lebron addresses his critics by asking “What Should I do”, followed by a series of questions:
Should I really believe I ruined my legacy?
Should I accept my role as a villain?
Should I tell you I am not a role model

What is Lil Wayne’s Worth

Some call Lil Wayne one of the greatest rappers of this generation. Next month, he’ll resume the spotlight when he walks away from an eight-month prison sentence for criminal possession of a weapon. It seems he has the power to keep going, going and going. Maybe he’s letting the world in on his secret with the release of his latest album, I Am Not a Human Being. Is he really the Superman of the music industry? Besides his talents, Lil Wayne is one of music’s top earners and his formula for generating cash is far different from that of Jay or Diddy. Forbes Hip-Hop Cash Kings for 2010 listed Wayne as number four out of 20, with earnings of $20 million, which includes the sale and licensing of master recordings, concerts, tour merchandise sales, endorsements and songwriting.

Eminem Is The Hottest MC In The Game!

Everyone loves a comeback story, and in 2010, that's what they got from Eminem.
Even though Marshall Mathers sold 608,000 copies of 2009's Relapse in its first week, the project was panned by critics and longtime Em fans. They said he rhymed in too many weird voices, that the production sounded dated and that the subject matter was too grim. The LP didn't make enough of an impact, and there really wasn't much buzz around Eminem to even warrant him making the Hottest MCs list last year.
This year, however, was totally different. Eminem pretty much dominated 2010 from start to finish, and the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust voted him the #1 Hottest MC in the Game. "Obviously, the last album was lackluster," mtvU's Yomi Desalu said during the Hottest MCs roundtable discussion. "I think he recognized that, not being on the board last year."
Em got back in the swing of things this year, first by ripping the all-star posse cut "Forever," which, despite being released in September 2009, had enough momentum to keep playing all the way into 2010. Then he guested on the Lil Wayne single "Drop the World," a highly anticipated duet between the two rappers that had been buzzed about for years; added a poignant verse to the remix of B.o.B's "Airplanes"; and even dropped a couple of freestyles (on Drake's "Over" beat and Lloyd Banks' "Beamer, Benz or Bentley").
It all led up to the release of the first single from Recovery, "Not Afraid." The song was a turn of form for Em that found him spitting motivational rhymes and encouraging people to face their fears, for better or worse. In a post-recession America, it felt like a message people really needed to hear: Don't give up, because we're all in this together. "Not Afraid" hit #1 on the Hot 100 and pushed Recovery to 741,000 units sold its first week. Em followed that with "Love the Way You Lie," which was poignantly assisted by Rihanna.
That song also hit #1 on the Hot 100, as well as pretty much every other Billboard chart. The video was viewed 6.6 million times on the day it debuted on Vevo, a record for the site, and has since been viewed 167 million times. Both songs remain staples on radio playlists and video countdowns nationwide.
"Something about Em this time around, you don't feel like he's following some type of formula," MTV Jams' Tuma Basa said. "He didn't come out with that corny Slim Shady record. This time, he came like, 'I came to play.' And the records have this motivational anthemic type [of feel] we haven't seen in him. He's stepping into a new space."
While there's little doubt Em will take home a stack of trophies at the 2011 Grammys, he actually nabbed two this year for Best Rap Album (Relapse) and Best Performance by a Duo or Group ("Crack a Bottle" with Dr. Dre and 50 Cent). He also brought home VMAs for the Best Male Video and Best Hip-Hop Video for "Not Afraid," while winning three Teen Choice Awards (Choice Rap Album for Relapse, Choice Rap Artist and Choice Rap/Hip-Hop Track for "Love the Way You Lie").
Turkish basketball club prepared to sign NBA star Allen Iverson
Former NBA player Allen Iverson will be good for Turkish basketball, the Besiktas club president says.

Istanbul (CNN) -- The president of Turkey's Besiktas basketball team says he has a verbal agreement to sign a $2 million contract with former NBA most valuable player Allen Iverson.
"I'm going to New York on Friday," said Seref Yalcin, the president of the Besiktas basketball team. "I talked to Allan and his manager yesterday, Gary Moore. He said there's no problem; he's able to sign. Friday, I'll be there, and we'll probably sign Sunday. And Monday, I'll bring him with me."
Yalcin said he was offering the former NBA star $1.5 million in addition to a half-million dollar signing bonus for a two-year contract.
"This is a major advertisement for Turkish basketball. Besiktas' value as a brand has increased. Everyone is talking about this and Besiktas," Yalcin said.
The Besiktas president predicted that Iverson would take his team to the top of Turkey's Champions League.
"He's going to bring lots of fans into our arena," Yalcin said. "If he plays with even 50 percent of his NBA capacity, that will be enough. This will also be good for Turkish basketball in general since he will inspire the youngsters here."
Yalcin said he has offered Iverson housing, transport, school for his five children and an assistant/translator who will be on call 24 hours a day to help the American athlete operate in Turkey's sprawling commercial capital.
Yalcin predicted that Iverson would be able to play with Besiktas in a game scheduled for November 7.
The Turkish basketball season has just begun, and Besiktas has a record of one win and one loss.
Iverson joined the NBA in 1996 and played 10 seasons in Philadelphia before moving among Denver, Detroit, Memphis and Philadelphia again.

T.I. Lucks… No Charges In L.A. Drug Arrest!

Clifford has officially caught another break! After all the hoopla of his Los Angeles arrest in September, it turns out the District Attorney has decided not to file formal charges against the weed, syrup and ecstasy happy rapper!
According to TMZ reports:
T.I. is finally getting a break — the L.A. County District Attorney has rejected the drug case stemming from his arrest last month … and we’re told there may have been legal problems with the case.
T.I. and his wife were busted back on September 1 for possession of a controlled substance.
According to the D.A.’s Office, they are not going forward with charges because, in essence, he’s already been sentenced to prison since the arrest was a violation of his federal probation.
However, law enforcement sources tell TMZ, there were significant legal issues over probable cause which led to T.I.’s arrest.
Cops claimed they smelled marijuana but no pot was ever booked into evidence. And, we’re told …T.I. was pulled out of his $250,000 Maybach immediately after he made the illegal U-turn and prior to any registration check.

Reggie Bush Threatens To “Expose” Kim

Last night on the season finale of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians”, Kim Kardashian aired a phone conversation between her and Reggie Bush that happened after the news broke that she was dating NFL Player Miles Austin. In the clip, she calls Reggie and he says “It is what it is, you are on your own now… I just felt like…the sh*t was literally driving me crazy”.
There was also another scene, where he goes off on Kim Kardashian because the car wash charged him when she took her car to get washed. When he called her about it, she told him they made the mistake because they both drive the same type of car. When Kim got off the phone with Reggie, she told her sisters that he said “Don’t ever call me again. Don’t ever f*cking charge a car wash to me again. You can have Miles Austin pay for it”.
It’s kind of hard to determine if the clip was chopped up to make Reggie sound like an angry bitter ex but Reggie was definitely not happy about it. Last night, he took to his twitter after the show aired and posted:
I kinda feel like the government right now! Lol! Man if they only knew what I knew about you!
Don’t make me expose you to those people who don’t know you…” -Jay Z (subliminal tweets)
Kim has also received a little flack from fans of the show who thought it was wrong that she would air a private phone conversation between the two. She addressed the episode on her blog in a post titled “My Most Emotional and Most Vulnerable Episode:
I saw some stuff on the internet saying I’ve put Reggie on blast for airing a phone call with the two of us. Reggie and I were in a relationship for over 3 years and we have taped dozens of conversations and iChatted many times while filming, so this is nothing new or scandalous
I think once you watch the episode you will really see that I in no way put anyone on blast! We are sharing a small bit of my personal life. Clearly so much more has gone on between us that no one hour episode can cover

Kanye West’s Premieres “Runaway” [Video]

“First rule in this world baby, don’t pay attention to anything you see in the news”
Kanye’s short film “Runaway” premiered tonight on MTV and BET to mixed reviews. The film, co-directed by Hype Williams, revolves around a failed relationship between Kanye West and a phoenix. I will admit the film was beautifully put together.
The two things that stood out to me and left room for many interpretations were, the dinner scene when the man turned to Kanye West and said “Your girlfriend is beautiful. Do you know she’s a bird?”. It was hard not to wonder if this scene represented his relationship with Amber Rose. Also during that same scene, Kanye and the Phoenix sat at a banquet table of black people who were being served by white servants.
Earlier this year while on ustream, Kanye talked about how he makes sure that his work is abstract:
I want to find more of an abstraction in my work. When things are like completely literal and you have to take it one way, it’s too commercial to me. When it’s abstract people can take it a lot of different ways so whatever people think about it, it’s good. If people think think a 100 different things and have a 100 different opinion about it, it’s much better than giving or demanding that someone thinks one way about it.
It will be interesting to see how others viewed the film and interpreted it.
