Game Changer: Facebook to Launch TV-like Video Ads

mark-zuckerberg-facebook-video-ads
The Internet is undeniably the place where the majority of media will be consumed in the near future, but one major drawback for most Web- based companies is the issue of monetization. While there are a plethora of successful Internet companies out there, they still don’t garner the kind of ad money that their analog counterparts, radio and television, accumulate. Most media companies are trying to figure out the old riddle of trading, ‘analog dollars for digital cents.’
Facebook, however, is looking to change that equation in their favor. The company is rumored to be launching a new 15-second video ad product that would not only compare to TV ads, but would also give potential advertisers access to Super Bowl size audiences on a regular basis. The ads are reported to cost about between $1-$2.5 million, which would be comparable to prices of their TV counterparts. According to huffingtonpost.com:
“If that price range is normally something you’d associate with the Super Bowl, you’re not far off: In 2013, the average 30-second Super Bowl ad fetched CBS $4 million.
“Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandburg invited the comparison to television’s biggest sporting event when talking to investors in 2012. She boasted that Facebook’s viewership is three times that of the Super Bowl, “and it happens every day.” By inserting commercials into the Newsfeed, Facebook would be taking another step to capitalize on that audience.”
These reports come on the heels of the Publicis/Omnicom merger announcement of two of the largest ad companies in the world—which is designed to give the two ads giants better leverage to compete with the likes of a Facebook.
This new product does not come without possible drawbacks. As the video above suggests, in order for Facebook video ads to amass that kind of audience, the ads would have to be placed into users’ newsfeed with no ability for them to opt out. This could in turn hurt the user experience that most people value on Facebook. However, the video does point to the fact that user experience has always been a primary focus for the company from its inception, and they have full confidence in CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s ability to smoothly implement something like this.
So what do you think, will Facebook video ads in your newsfeed be fair or foul?

Italy’s Black Minister Cecile Kyenge Demands Apology For Racist Slurs

Cecile Kyenge
Italy’s first black minister Cecile Kyenge is finally speaking out about the almost daily racial slurs she has faced since becoming integration minister.  She is demanding an apology from the leader of the Northern League after members of the party staged a walkout when she arrived for a meeting in the northern town of Cantu near Como.
According to Euronews:
“It was the last straw for the integration minister who joined Enrico Letta’s government in April. Since then she has faced almost daily racial slurs.
“‘I call on the leader of the Northern League after recent events, after the attacks of recent days to say something, to make a strong statement about what happened, especially to guarantee my presence at another meeting which they are holding. In the absence of him responding, I cannot guarantee my presence at that meeting,’ she said.
“Earlier, a Northern League official likened her to a gorilla in a Facebook post. The leader of the party stopped short of an apology.
“‘The league does not make personal attacks, but fights against policy proposals such as her proposal on citizenship for foreigners – a big error,’ said Roberto Maroni leader Northern League.”
Kyenge recently responded via Twitter after bananas were thrown at her while she was making a speech.
Kyenge responded to the gesture on Twitter, calling it “sad” and a waste of food.
“The courage and optimism to change things has to come above all from the bottom up to reach the institutions,” she said, the Guardian reports.
According to Reuters.com:
“Some of Italy’s top politicians on Saturday rallied behind the country’s first black minister, a target of racist slurs since her appointment in April, after a spectator threw bananas at her while she was making a speech.
Kyenge, who is originally from Democratic Republic of Congo, was appearing at a political rally in Cervia in central Italy on Friday, when someone in the audience threw bananas towards the stage, narrowly missing it.
“Kyenge has faced almost daily racial slurs and threats since joining the government. Earlier this month a senator from the anti-immigration Northern League party likened her to an orangutan and only apologized after a storm of criticism.”

Lakers Coach Still Baffled by Dwight Howard Departure

Dwight Howard to join Rockets
Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni is still confused over the Dwight Howard’s decision to leave his team for the Houston Rockets.
“It’s hard for me to sit here and criticize or even to understand why he left a place like LA,” D’Antoni told “ESPN L.A. Now” hosts Mark Willard and Mychal Thompson. “That’s kind of mind-boggling a little bit, but that’s in his DNA and what he wants to do.”
With the departure of Howard, D’Antoni knows he lost one of the best centers in the league, but believes other players are capable of filling his shoes.
“Everybody has got to make that decision,” D’Antoni said. “You can debate it all you want. Only Dwight knows. Obviously he didn’t think he would be as happy here as he will be in Houston. That might be the case and he had to make that decision. There will be a lot of speculation. We tried it, it didn’t work out and we go forward. So be it. You hate it, Dwight’s one of the better centers in the league and it would have been a long-term thing, but I looked at it like, ‘OK, you don’t have Dwight, but you got Pau [Gasol].’
“So, we’ll see. In the short run, we’ll see what happens. In the long run, obviously 10 years from now Dwight might still be playing and maybe Pau is retired, but everybody has got to do [what's best for them].”
Howard signed a four-year, $88 million contract with Houston, leaving a $118- million deal on the table in LA.

Nicki Minaj Adds Fuel to Rumors Drake is Leaving Young Money Label

Drake-Nicki-Minaj-Lil-Wayne
Nicki Minaj is doing very little to ease the concerns of fans who fear Canadian-born rapper Drake is leaving the Young Money Cash Money label and his mentor and boss Lil Wayne.
Speculation began earlier this year, when YMCB executive and rapper Birdman addressed the rumors via MTV:
“That’s just the business, people talk and blogs talk and sh– don’t really be having no truth to it. Our relationship with Drake … that’s my lil brother. That’s the homie. That’s family. So there’s never been no friction. We’re just working hard, tryna give people great music.”
Certainly the media in general has a tendency to do a lot with little information, but the top female rapper from the label isn’t helping matters.
The “Pink Friday” rapper dropped in to chat with DJ Funkmaster Flex where she addressed the biggest rap rumor of the moment. Was DJ Khaled’s marriage proposal real and is Drake leaving Cash Money behind?
On the topic of Drake, Minaj said, ”I just feel like people’s perceptions of their reality, is their perception of their reality. So, sometimes people make moves based on their perception of what reality is, and I know that sounds like a riddle but maybe one day you will be able to unravel that one. All I can say is, Lil Wayne is everything to me. I can’t speak for anyone else, but what Young Money Cash Money did for Nicki Minaj, I could never repay them for. So I am forever indebted to them. Whatever happens with any other artist, I don’t know.”
The rumor mill has blamed money and egos for the feud, claiming Cash Money bosses Lil Wayne and Birdman are ripping off Drake. No confirmed reports have supported the rumors.
Minaj told Flex:
“Sometimes when you are really intelligent and really talented, you also think a lot and sometimes your mind is racing with thoughts. It is what it is, people go through their own motions, and you got to respect it and keep it moving. I think like we all love the team. We all love Wayne and that’s what is all going to keep us together. Drake is my baby. That’s how it was when we came in. Whatever is going on now – obviously we’re all very busy and you know sh-t happens. It gets a little hard to have a real connection when people are on different sides of the world and working on different things. You just never know who people got in their ear or what their feelings [may be] or maybe they felt wronged in some way. I don’t know. I just know that Drake is my baby [and] Wayne is my everything.”
Despite Minaj’s attempt at being vague, she makes it clear where her loyalties lie.

Is Floyd Mayweather Selling His Ex’s Clothes On Instagram?

Floyd Mayweather and Miss Jackson
They say, “To the left, to the left, everything you own in a box to the left…”
And it just might end up for sale on Ebay or Instagram!
Last year, even though he was locked up, boxer Money Mayweather was still able to make his fiancĂ©e Miss Jackson’s birthday a night to remember by showering her with diamond jewelry and a cake in the shape of a $30,000 Balenciaga bag, however this year was slightly different. Instead of treating her to bags, jewels and private jets, he spent her birthday posting photos of (what looks like) shoes and bags from her closet on Instagram while promoting that they would soon be for sale.
According to the rumor mill, Floyd called off his engagement a few months ago, and Miss Jackson (real name Shantel) added fuel to the fire by posting recent selfies with out her blinged-out ring.  Also, instead of flaunting birthday gifts from Floyd this year on Instagram,  she spent her special day partying at XEN Lounge in North Hollywood with stars like Akon, Teyana Taylor and Tamala Jones.
Catch what’s for sale (in case you have a few dollars for some very high-end hand-me-downs) below:

Floyd also added: “This new venture is by both me and @MissJackson. Coming soon,” which either means he is going in business with his ex, or he @’d her to let her know, “I’m selling your stuff!”
Over the past year, Miss Jackson has flaunted a lot of high-end shoes and bags from her massive closet at his house on Instagram, some of which Floyd posted was for sale.

If Floyd is really selling his ex’s things, Miss Jackson would definitely be the perfect catch for the producers of one of those Baller Ex-Wives/girfriend type shows.

DMX Owes $1.24 Million In Child Support, Files Bankruptcy

dmx tashera simmons
Zammnnnn! Just when you thought you had problems…
DMX may definitely be having one of the worst weeks ever.  Last Friday, he was arrested in South Carolina for suspicion of driving under the influence and failing to have a valid driver’s license, and yesterday, he had to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy so that he could get on top of his finances again.
What’s mindblowing, is that DMX has been in the rap game for over 20 years, but claims he has less than $50,000 in assets and has raked in $1 million to $10 million in debt. He is also $1.24 million behind in child support payments for his 10 children. He has four kids with his estranged wife Tashera who he was with for 11 years, but throughout their marriage he admitted to sleeping around and having babies with other women. [a vasectomy may apply here...]
Meanwhile, DMX’s rep Domenick Nati has released a statement via the Wall Street Journal’s Bankruptcy Beat saying that his financial problems have just been building up over the years, blaming poor money management and his previous handlers for his huge debt.
“DMX’s financial strains have been inhibiting his career for several years. Poor financial management by prior representation have caused him to be ineligible to retain a passport. The purpose of this bankruptcy filing is for reorganization so he can perform for his fans oversees [sic]. We are currently planning a tour in Europe and Africa for the fall of 2013.”
If you owe more than $2,500 in back child support you can’t get a passport, so because of that DMX’s camp is saying that he won’t be able to tour and make money.
Today’s rappers may want to take note. Bad money management and business decisions may have you worse off then when you started a few years from now. Unfortunate (especially, for those 10 kids!).
Iyanla, fix my bank account.

Nicki Minaj Brushes Off DJ Khaled’s Proposal, Shares Thoughts On Whether There Is A Rift Between Drake & Young Money

Nick Minaj and DJ Khaled
DJ Khaled’s marriage proposal to Nicki Minaj was only a joke. Um…well duh!!!
Nicki told us exactly what we suspected yesterday while chatting with DJ Funkmaster Flex.
Last night,  after DJ Khaled premiered his new song ‘ ’I Wanna Be With You’ featuring Nicki Minaj, Future and Rick Ross, Nicki called in to Hot 97 to talk about the new record, while admitting that DJ Khaled’s recent proposal was an extension of the song. During the call, the Head Barb also revealed why she has been going hard in the paint recently on everybody’s record, and when asked if there is something going on between Drake and Young Money, she showed mad love to Drake while tip-toeing around the subject.
Catch a few highlights from the interview and audio below:
On whether she’s spoke to DJ Khaled since he proposed to her
No, I was shocked just like the rest of the world and I was cracking up laughing with the rest of the world because Khaled is a master at what he does and you know he is a DJ, Hypeman, entrepreneur, all of those [things] wrapped in one. He was just like ‘Yo! that’s how I was feeling! It’s just an extension of the song yo!’ Everyone was just like ‘Whatever, Khaled.’

On how her camp and rumored fiance SB reacted to the proposal
Nobody took it seriously. They sent me [text messages] like ‘LOL! Khaled is crazy’ and i just hit back with ‘lol’. Let me set the record straight, Khaled is my brother and Khaled was not serious with that damn proposal y’all. Please let it go. He was kidding.[…] It was just another way for him to give a glimpse of the feeling on this [new] record. He is not attracted to me. He doesn’t like me. We’re brothers and sisters. He is like a cuddly bear.

On why she’s collaborating with so many people
I think that when you start off in life, not having much and you see that the power of your mind can take you anywhere in this world, I feel like that’s like asking Oprah why she created OWN. I don’t have a percentage of what she’s got and she is still working. I love independent women. I love ambitious people. I hate lazy ass people and if I go a couple of days without getting something done, I feel like I’m on some bum sh-t, and I can’t live like that! I don’t want anyone around me living like that. At the end of the day, I love what I do. I’m having fun, I like doing this. Shout out to all the artist that have given me an opportunity to work with them. Whenever somebody asks me to get on their track, it’s an honor and I take it very seriously.

On Drake and whether things have changed with him and Young Money Cash Money
I just feel like people’s perceptions of their reality, is their perception of their reality. So, sometimes people make moves based on their perception of what reality is, and I know that sounds like a riddle but maybe one day you will be able to unravel that one. All I can say is, Lil Wayne is everything to me. I can’t speak for anyone else but what Young Money Cash Money did for Nicki Minaj, I could never repay them for. So I am forever indebted to them. Whatever happens with any other artist, I don’t know.

Sometimes when you are really intelligent and really talented, you also think a lot and sometimes your mind is racing with thoughts. I just know that Drake is my baby [and] Wayne is my everything.
On whether Drake was taking jabs at Young Money or Lil Wayne on his newest records (i.e. On “Versace, Versace Versace” Drake raps “N-ggas be wantin’ a verse for a verse, but man that’s not a swap to me” and later in the song “‘F-ck all your feelins cause business is business, its strictly financial”)
I’ve never taken that personal. When you are in a place where Drake is, which is everybody is asking him for a hook or a feature, it is what it is. He’s speaking the truth. Whether he’s taking that as a compliment or not, I don’t know. He’s speaking the truth and I think he’s speaking about every damn body. I’m not exempt from that and neither is anyone else. If you’ve been asking him for a verse or a song or done a verse or a song with him, then maybe you are included. I don’t know, but he’s not lying.

Keyshia Cole’s man Boobie Gibson Arrested For Assault In New Orleans

Keyshia Cole attends Essence Music Festival
Drama! Drama! Drama!
Earlier this month, Keyshia Cole and her man Daniel ‘Boobie’ Gibson were all smiles at the Essence Music Festival, but not too long afterward, a scuffle went down that somehow flew under the radar.
Today, Boobie turned himself in to New Orleans authorities on charges of assault and battery from an unidentified accuser. Details of what exactly happened are sketchy but Daniel did call in to TMZ and revealed that a man approached Keyshia at the Essence Music Fest and yelled some inappropriate comments towards her, so he took matters into his own hands. He also released the statement:
“Earlier this month during the Essence Music Festival, I was involved in an incident with other individuals while I was out with my wife.[...]It’s unfortunate that some see opportunity in taking advantage of people who work hard for what they have achieved.
Yesterday Boobie also posted a photo of him sweating hard in the paint with a caption that read, “The Lord said No Weapon Formed.. So I’m not alarmed. #Luv,” and earlier in the week, he posted a photo of some flowers with the caption:
Brought my wife Flowers for Breakfast & a old head said “What did you do” truth be told I ain’t hold my baby down in a situation with Family like I should’ve (so dude was right).. but it shouldn’t always take trouble to do something special for the one you Love. Gotta treat every day like it’s the 1st time you met. Give her that feeling every day. #Luv

TGT Brings 90′s R&B Live To Spotlight Live & Lots Of Laughs To Phillipe’s

Screen Shot 2013-07-29 at 11.12.50 AM
TGT redeemed.  Erase that horrible video clip from ‘The Couch’ last week from your memory bank.  These guys are doing it!
Last week, Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank performed as part of Atlantic Records Spotlight Live Showcase, and the fellas tore it down as they brought 90′s R&B to the stage.  First, they warmed the crowd up by performing covers of Jodeci’s “Freek N’ You”, Bel Biv Divoe’s “Poison” and Mary J. Blige’s “I’m Going Down,” before transitioning into their own individual hits.  Ginuwine sang, “So Anxious” and “Pony” while throwing a sweat-drenched t-shirt into the crowd of drooling ladies.  Tyrese sang, “Stay” and “Sweet Lady” and Tank performed “I Deserve” and “Please Don’t Go.”  The trio ended the show with a few of their collective songs off of their upcoming 3 Kings LP  including “Sex Ain’t Never Felt Better.”
The next night, while attending a private dinner for the guys at Phillipe’s, I caught up with Tyrese who ran down the group’s history.  His friendship with Ginuwine spans over 10 years, and he was the best man at Ginuwine’s wedding back in 2003. Meanwhile, Tank was singing at a church in Washington, D.C.  over 10 years ago, when someone approached him and told him that Ginuwine was looking for a background singer. He flew out to L.A. to audition and the rest is history.
Now, it’s hard not to wonder if there are egos in a group like this, but I will confirm that they do have arguments.  While at dinner, the guys brought on a lot of laughs as they argued about small things like who had received the most screams at the show the night before and who sang first (neither of them could remember). Tank also called out Tyrese for singing his part while they were covering “Freek’N You” which resulted in Tank just standing on stage and staring at him (You can see that video below…lol!!!).  You also had a moment where Tank was being extremely silly while Tyrese was trying to have a serious discussion about bringing conviction back into music.  Tyrese finally shut down and said he wasn’t going to talk anymore which prompted Tank to yell out dramatically, “Alright! I’m Sorry, Man!!!”
I loved those moments because they gave the group character, and I became more intrigued with the group as a whole.  So much so that I mentioned I wouldn’t mind seeing a web series or short reality show surrounding these guys leading up to the album’s release. [Probably too late, but just a thought!].
From my observation, Tank is like the class clown, Ginuwine just goes with the flow, and Tyrese is the voice of the group. Since he’s booking movie roles left and right, and probably makes at least $10 million per ‘Fast & Furious’ movie, it’s hard not to wonder why he would even bother with trying to make a group like this work, but he’s seriously very passionate about it.  He said he loves film but music is where his heart is and being able to record and perform in front of his fans each night is what he lives for.

Rumor Alert: Did Jay-Z, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and Others Join Florida Boycott?

trayvon martin protest
The rumor mill is in overdrive over speculation that big name entertainers like Jay-Z, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West and others are joining Stevie Wonder in his boycott of Florida.
After the not guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman murder trial was announced, musician Stevie Wonder released a statement vowing to never return to Florida or any other state that recognizes the controversial “Stand Your Ground” law.
“I decided today that until the ‘Stand Your Ground’ law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again. As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world. We can’t bring them back. What we can do is we can let our voices be heard. And we can vote in our various countries throughout the world for change and equality for everybody. That’s what I know we can do.”
According to US Magazine, a new report surfaced by American Urban Radio Networks’ April Ryan says  ”a source close to the Stevie Wonder camp” confirmed that Jay-Z, Madonna, Usher, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and other artists are canceling concerts in Florida.
As reports of the list surfaced, several representatives of the various musicians distanced themselves. According to the Huffington Post:
“A local news outlet in Florida cites ‘an executive affiliated with the ‘Legends of the Summer’ tour’ who says the Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z concert planned for Aug. 16 at Sun Life stadium will go on.”
Another source denied to HuffPost that Rihanna is joining the boycott, while the representatives of Rolling Stones told Mother Jones that they’re not affiliated with the boycott.

Drake And Chris Brown Avoid $16M Lawsuit After Nightclub Brawl Over Rihanna

chris brown and drake
Chris Brown and his arch-rival, Drake, have something to celebrate.
The singer and rapper reportedly became bitter enemies over a shared love for Bajan songstress, Rihanna. The animosity peaked when Drake allegedly threw a bottle at Brown and his entourage last June, starting a bar brawl at W.i.P nightclub in New York that left several injured, including Brown.
Not surprisingly, the injured list continued to grow—as did the lawsuits. The most famous of them all, is from San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker, who’s suing both Drake and Brown for $20M after suffering an eye injury. The entertainers in turned sued each other to offset the mounting lawsuits. It is unclear where the lawsuits from the patrons stand. However, the Supreme Court recently dismissed a $16M suit brought on by Greenhouse, a club adjacent to W.i.P.
According to NY Daily News:
“A Manhattan judge has ruled that the two entertainers could not be held accountable for damages to the trademark of Greenhouse, a SoHo club that shares owners and a liquor license with W.i.P., an adjacent club where the June 2012 fight over Rihanna took place.
“‘Unfortunately, brawls in bars and night clubs are commonplace. In fact, they have occurred in the past in Greenhouse, Supreme Court Justice Anil Singh told lawyers for both sides in May.
“Singh dismissed the case saying Drake and Brown as patrons had no special obligation to protect the reputation of a club that was adjacent to the one where the fight occurred.”
Brown, who’s working overtime to stay out of jail after a judge ruled he violated his probation over a traffic accident, has not responded to the ruling. Drake’s lawyer, on the other hand, is hoping to maximize their good fortune. Harry Steinberg argued the rapper’s legal bills have mounted to six figures and requested the judge to sanction or fine the Greenhouse lawyers for pressing a case where there was no law to support it.
Not surprisingly, Singh refused their request.

No New Kids: Slim Thug Gets A Vasectomy

Slim Thug Gets a Vasectomy

Slim Thug won’t be adding to the population ever again. He got his little swimmers shut down.
The other day, he posted a post-operation photo of himself at the hospital following a vasectomy, with the caption:
#NoNewKids #NoNewBabymamas #NoMoChildSupport #NoLittleGirl just me and my 3 Boyz
I’m laying in my bed, watchin’ TV with my feet kicked up and ice pack on my balls. That’s what it’s gonna be for the night…foot surgery in the morning.
This comes just a year after he told a Houston radio station that abortions are necessary for some situations, especially if both parents aren’t going to be around and it’s like birth control.
I think abortion is necessary on some occasions. People be against it, but people don’t deal with the real life situations some people deal with. I don’t think it’s right, I don’t think it’s good to have a baby and not be with the father. That’s part of the biggest problem. My mother, she took care of me, but she was working 7 days-a-week, 12 hours-a-day. That was a struggle, I seen how much she struggled and it was so hard coming up. I don’t even know who my daddy is. I don’t like that. I think a kid deserves both his parents. That’s why I think if you ain’t gonna be with somebody, you don’t need to have a kid with him. Even though I got 3 baby mamas…. it’s working out. But it ain’t right. I ain’t saying wait 3 or 4 months. If it’s immediate, it’s like birth control to me.
This seems very responsible of Slim to do. If only more men with kids by multiple women they don’t plan to marry would take heed…
Meanwhile, Slim also received bunion surgery while at the hospital.
Slim Thug Gets Bunion Surgery
If his feet are looking like this post-surgery, lord only knows what those things looked like beforehand.  This is a man’s feet who has never worn heels in his life, so you can imagine what some women feet will look like after years of wearing painful heels like “red bottoms.” Ladies, you’ve been warned.

Ciara Goes To Dinner With Future In Disguise And Solange Gets Cute In Yellow For A Date With Alan

Ciara, is that you?  Last night, Future was spotted coming out of Nobu 57 in New York City with Cici, who was dressed in mean white pumps and hiding under a black wig.  Since the two were not expecting photographers to be there, Ciara was completely caught off guard and ran behind her bodyguard startled.  Future meanwhile, smiled it off !  There goes her lowkey night!

Meanwhile, over in Brooklyn,  Solange and her long-time boyfriend, video director Alan Ferguson were dressed to the nine as they headed out to the Max Mara Party last week.   This couple always looks as though they stepped out of an 70s portrait. So vintage and their styles complement each other well.

He also released an official statement from his lawyer earlier today, claiming Siohvaughn is nowhere near homeless since he provides her with $25,000 monthly which covers her mortgage, maintenance, 4 cars, insurance, taxes and attorney fees.
Dwyane Wade and his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches have reached a financial settlement. The agreement was submitted in court last Tuesday, July 16 prior to Ms. Funches’ recent unfounded and erratic public display outside the courthouse this past Friday. Dwyane Wade has made several requests over the years to settle this matter, despite Ms. Funches having 16 different attorneys and 2 arrests throughout this process. Mr. Wade has provided a very generous settlement to Ms. Funches to continue to live a wonderful lifestyle for the rest of her life.
Despite false allegations by Ms. Funches claiming to be “homeless” and “destitute,” Dwyane Wade has maintained over the years financial support to his ex-wife by providing her with income over $25,000 on a monthly basis, timely paid for her home mortgage, maintenance and security at the house, 4 cars, insurance, taxes and all of her attorney fees throughout this process. Ms. Funches has made a mockery of homelessness which is a serious and personal issue for Mr. Wade as his mother was homeless for a period of time when he was a child.
Dwyane Wade was awarded sole custody of their sons by the court in 2011. The safety and wellbeing of his children are his main priority. Due to Ms. Funches’ current unstable mental state, her visitation will be determined by the court. Mr. Wade continues to hope that one day he will have a civil relationship with his ex-wife for the sake of their sons.”
According to the Chicago Sun Times, on Monday a judge decided to award Siohvaughn $5 million in the divorce settlement, as well as a Chicago mansion and four cars. Dwyane and Siohvaughn are also to refrain from making any further disparaging remarks about each other in public, as well as each other’s family members and significant others (Gabrielle Union included.) Although it seems like somewhat of a win for Siohvaughn, outside the courtroom, she expressed her displeasure by saying, “My voice isn’t for sale, my story isn’t for sale, no thank you.”
From the outside looking in, it looks as though these two may need some type of parental counseling together so that they can come to a peaceful agreement for the sake of their kids. If this keeps up, their sons will either grow up despising their mother or they will one day resent their father.

Kanye tussles with a photographer at LAX

Kanye Tussles at LAX 6.jpg Kanye at LAX Photographer fight
Last week, Kanye told photographers, “Don’t Talk Ever” and he definitely meant it.
An unruly paparazzi decided to test his luck earlier today at LAX Airport after he spotted Kanye arriving from an overseas flight. He continued to press Kanye by asking, “What’s going on? Why can’t we talk to you” before all hell broke loose.  Kanye explained to him, “I told you don’t talk right?  You get me in trouble [unaudible] and I still have to pay $250,000,” before grabbing the man and his camera. The two tussled for a couple of seconds before Kanye left the scene.
The photographer was taken to the hospital and Los Angeles Airport Police released a statement to X17Online that read:
Today at approximately 2:00 p.m., at the Tom Bradley International Terminal (on the arrival level curbside), Los Angeles Airport Police officers were flagged down by a citizen (photographer) who alleged that he was taking pictures of an individual when he was battered by the subject. The alleged subject was not at the location nor was he observed by officers at the scene. LAFD was notified, responded to the location and transported the victim to a local hospital for medical attention. A police report was taken by the Los Angeles Police Department and the investigation is ongoing.

President Obama Talks Trayvon Martin and Race in America

After a week of rising clamor in the wake of the George Zimmerman acquittal, President Obama strode out onto the stage in the White House briefing room and delivered one of the most powerful and personal speeches about race that the nation has ever seen from the occupant of the White House. Speaking on the death of young Trayvon Martin, Obama said, “Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago.”
The president also blasted the Stand Your Ground law—which his attorney general Eric Holder also criticized earlier in the week. Obama said the country needed to focus more attention on improving the plight of young black males.
Obama tried to explain to the nation why the African-American community has reacted with such outrage and pain to Zimmerman’s acquittal, putting the verdict in the context of the nation’s history of racism and the difficulties black people still face in this country. It was a moment that television commentators across the airwaves described as “historic.” NBC’s Andrea Mitchell said his comments “gave me chills.”
“You know, when Trayvon Martin was first shot, I said that this could have been my son. Another way of saying that is Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago,” Obama said to a shocked press corps, which hadn’t even been warned that the president would appear at the briefing. “And when you think about why, in the African-American community at least, there’s a lot of pain around what happened here, I think it’s important to recognize that the African-American community is looking at this issue through a set of experiences and a history that—that doesn’t go away. There are very few African-American men in this country who haven’t had the experience of being followed when they were shopping in a department store. That includes me. And there are very few African-American men who haven’t had the experience of walking across the street and hearing the locks click on the doors of cars. That happens to me, at least before I was a senator. There are very few African-Americans who haven’t had the experience of getting on an elevator and a woman clutching her purse nervously and holding her breath until she had a chance to get off. That happens often.”
Obama said those sorts of experiences shape the black community’s reaction to the Zimmerman verdict, in addition to the community’s knowledge of the serious racial disparities in the application of justice in the legal system. He said the black community is not naive about the prevalence of black-on-black crime and the violence of many black neighborhoods, and that black folks are aware of the historical context that created these conditions. He said there’s a frustration born from the knowledge that the Trayvon case would have gone very differently if it were a white male teen instead of a black male.
The president then seemed to try to manage expectations as many African-American activists, such as Rev. Al Sharpton and the NAACP, have been calling on the federal government to file charges against Zimmerman for violating Trayvon’s civil rights.
“Beyond protests or vigils, the question is, are there some concrete things that we might be able to do?” he asked. “I know that Eric Holder is reviewing what happened down there, but I think it’s important for people to have some clear expectations here. Traditionally, these are issues of state and local government — the criminal code. And law enforcement has traditionally done it at the state and local levels, not at the federal levels. That doesn’t mean, though, that as a nation, we can’t do some things that I think would be productive.”
One of the things the president pointed out was the need for increased law enforcement training to reduce the use of racial profiling, which was a signature issue of his when he was in the Illinois state senate.
Obama also took on the Stand Your Ground law that was such a lightning rod in the Zimmerman case, using a deft but potentially explosive hypothetical to highlight the racial problems inherent in Stand Your Ground—a law on the books now in more than 30 states.
“I think it would be useful for us to examine some state and local laws to see if it — if they are designed in such a way that they may encourage the kinds of altercations and confrontations and tragedies that we saw in the Florida case, rather than diffuse potential altercations,” he said. “If we’re sending a message as a society in our communities that someone who is armed potentially has the right to use those firearms even if there’s a way for them to exit from a situation, is that really going to be contributing to the kind of peace and security and order that we’d like to see? And for those who resist that idea that we should think about something like these ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws, I just ask people to consider if Trayvon Martin was of age and armed, could he have stood his ground on that sidewalk? And do we actually think that he would have been justified in shooting Mr. Zimmerman, who had followed him in a car, because he felt threatened? And if the answer to that question is at least ambiguous, it seems to me that we might want to examine those kinds of laws.”
Describing it as a “long-term project,” the president said the nation needed to focus on bolstering and reinforcing African-American boys.”This is something that Michelle and I talk a lot about,” he said. “There are a lot of kids out there who need help who are getting a lot of negative reinforcement. And is there more that we can do to give them the sense that their country cares about them and values them and is willing to invest in them? You know, I’m not naive about the prospects of some brand-new federal program. I’m not sure that that’s what we’re talking about here. But I do recognize that as president, I’ve got some convening power. And there are a lot of good programs that are being done across the country on this front. And for us to be able to gather together business leaders and local elected officials and clergy and celebrities and athletes and figure out how are we doing a better job helping young African-American men feel that they’re a full part of this society and that — and that they’ve got pathways and avenues to succeed — you know, I think that would be a pretty good outcome from what was obviously a tragic situation. And we’re going to spend some time working on that and thinking about that.”
Obama concluded by saying that the country has some soul-searching to do, and that we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that things are improving.
“There has been talk about should we convene a conversation on race. I haven’t seen that be particularly productive when politicians try to organize conversations. They end up being stilted and politicized, and folks are locked into the positions they already have,” he said.  ”On the other hand, in families and churches and workplaces, there’s a possibility that people are a little bit more honest, and at least you ask yourself your own questions about, am I wringing as much bias out of myself as I can; am I judging people, as much as I can, based on not the color of their skin but the content of their character? That would, I think, be an appropriate exercise in the wake of this tragedy. And let me just leave you with — with a final thought, that as difficult and challenging as this whole episode has been for a lot of people, I don’t want us to lose sight that things are getting better. Each successive generation seems to be making progress in changing attitudes when it comes to race. It doesn’t mean that we’re in a post-racial society. It doesn’t mean that racism is eliminated. But you know, when I talk to Malia and Sasha and I listen to their friends and I see them interact, they’re better than we are. They’re better than we were on these issues. And that’s true in every community that I’ve visited all across the country.”
After his remarks, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry, who is also a political science professor at Tulane University, compared it to the speech given by President Kennedy after Birmingham sheriff Bull Connor turned the hoses and dogs on the marching children of Birmingham:
“But the part that’s completely unique, that has never happened before, the part I’m not even sure we can capture how important it is, is that the president of the United States, an African-American man, who is both of those things at same time, stood there at the podium with the official insignia of the White House behind him, and said the history and the pain and the contemporary experiences of black people in this country matter—they shape how they experience something like the Zimmerman verdict and if we’re going to move forward as a nation, we must acknowledge the realities of those experiences. Just that recognition, of the humanity and experiences of black people, from the president of the United States, is absolutely historic.”

Reverend Al Sharpton Gets His Groove Back

Al Sharpton and his new girlfriend

In case you care, Reverend Al Sharpton is getting his groove back like Stella.
Over the past few months, the 58-year-old civil rights activist has been running around with a much-younger stunna on his arm, who classifies herself as a personal stylist.  Now, we know why Al has been looking casket sharp lately.
Aside from a stint with LisaRaye, this is the first time Al Sharpton has publicly dated someone since he separated from his wife Kathy Lee Jordan, with whom he never officially divorced.  He also plans to spill a few deets on his personal life in his upcoming book, “The Rejected Stone,” which hits stores in October.
The New York Daily News was so interested in who the new woman was, that they went to her Westchester Counter neighborhood recently and asked all of her neighbors about her character. Al’s reaction was:
‘Don’t I have a right to date when my marriage has been over for a decade?’
Out with the old and in with the new Al, we ain’t mad at cha.
