Samuel L. Jackson has been hired to host the this year’s BET Awards ceremony, BET made the announcement Tuesday.
The actor will head the awards show, which will give accolades to the best musicians, entertainers and athletes in 20 categories. “We are massively excited about having Sam Jackson, the world’s biggest box office star host The BET Awards 12,” said Stephen G. Hill, President of Music Programming and Specials, BET Networks in a statement. “His wit, presence and gigantic personality are the perfect match for our show.”
Rapper Kanye West came in first with seven nods, and R&B singer Beyoncé’s came in a close second with 6 award nominations. The show will take place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on July 1.
