Jada Pinkett-Smith Wishes She Had Willow’s Opportunities as a Child

Jada Pinkett-Smith seems like a star breeder nowadays with a 12 year old movie star for a son and a 10 year old chart topping, world touring daughter. Though she’s been under a lot of criticism from people who think she’s “pimping” her kids, she recently revealed in an interview that she wishes she had the same opportunities as her kids when she was growing up:
“I was the girl hanging out with drug dealers, drinking, messing around. Whatever you think I did, I did worse. “My daughter is a born rebel like me – Willow is so me it’s not true. But being a rebel isn’t a problem, as long as you have someone to guide you, and we are with our kids all the time.[...]We see it as our mission to use that energy, to help them express who they are.
I tell her all the time that I would like to be 10 again and to go to fashion shows, to perform, act, have all these opportunities.[...]I’m blessed to be her guide. She has these opportunities, so why not take them? What is wrong with that?”
I think it’s great that the Smith Kid’s are allowing their kids to be “great”. I think as kids, we always use to say, when I grow up I want to be “this or that” but they have been presented with the opportunity a little earlier than most. Sometimes I do raise my eyebrow and wonder if they are being pushed just a little too hard (the Ustream chat of Willow continuously expressing “I’m tired you guys…I’m so tired”, right after she rehearsed for the Ellen Show comes to mind) but as long as they are happy and want to do this versus being pushed to, they should be fine.
