Top 10 Cities For African-Americans To Live

Washington D.C.

Black Population - 22.5%
D.C. usually gets a bad reputation because of its crime activity, however, it is actually one of the best places for African Americans to live.
Especially for those out of college looking for a job, D.C. is responsible for more black internships than any other city in the U.S.

Atlanta, GA

Black Population - 30.8%
With easily one of the biggest black populations in America, Atlanta is one of the fastest growing cities right now. As it grows, jobs are continuing to increase and so are the opportunities.
Atlanta is also known as the new Black Hollywood, so all you inspiring rappers, actors, and entertainers might need to head down south.
Raleigh-Durham, NC

Black Population - 21.3%
Although this city might raise a couple of eyebrows, its true, Raleigh is definitely a place African-Americans want to live.  Although Raleigh has always had a good size black population, it has rapidly increased almost 3.7% within the past 2 years
Houston, TX
Black Population - 16.8%
Since the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, Texas has been one of the fastest growing black populated states in America.  With Houston being the 2nd highest growth in Texas, many people believe the move to Houston will give their families opportunities that have not existed since Katrina.

Nashville, TN
Black Population - 15.3%
Although you might think of Nashville as a good ol' country music town, it might actually surprise you.  Ranking 3rd in most blacked owned businesses, Nashville has a number of successful young black entrepreneurs.
With a large field in both business and entertainment, Nashville is a great city for fresh out of college students to go and live out their dream.
Dallas, TX

Black Population - 14.2%
Like its brother city Houston, Dallas is another city that many of migrated to for opportunities that were taken away from them by natural disasters. Being one of the largest rescue relief cities, many Blacks have decided to stay in Dallas to start a whole new life.
Charlotte, NC
Black Population - 23. 4%
With North Carolina making it's second appearance on the list, Charlotte is not only the fastest growing black city in NC, but the fastest growing city period.  With more business jobs opening more than most cities in the US, Charlotte is a city that is easily starting to boom, and with the addition of a new football and basketball team the sky is the limit for the city.
Indianapolis, IN
Black Population - 14.6%
Out of all the cities on the list, this one might raise the most eyebrows. Indianapolis is known for having one of the fastest growing black populations.  With an average family income of African-Americans almost higher anywhere else in the United States, it seems that the successful and prominent black families are making the move to Indy.

Columbus, OH

Population - 14.1%
With both Cincinnati and Cleveland making the poorest U.S. cities list, it's not a real surprise why many African-Americans are migrating to Columbus.  With less crime, more jobs available, and a richer community, many people feel that Columbus is a city that is safer and yet not too far from home.
Jacksonville, FL

Black Population - 22.5%
Although it's not the 30% population that Atlanta has, Jacksonville is the best city for African-Americans to live in.  With the average Black family income ranking in the top 5, many people are finding opportunities in a smaller city neighbored in a state with huge tourism cities.  With housing prices the lowest they've ever been in Florida, the move to Jacksonville now would be a smart decision for anyone looking to raise a family or simply just a change.
